Cartacho mi amor

Here are some  impressions of what I believe is the most beautiful city on this earth.

Imagine tropical heat and humidity, intense smells (both good and bad), an iced agua panela, and incredibly nice and beautiful people. Imagine a rich and diverse history and culture: colorful old palacios, stucco and artwork everywhere. Imagine the palace of the Spanish Inquisition and their arsenal of tools for torture. Imagine the pier where the slave ships moored, and the slave market next to it. Imagine a city so rich it had to have a huge fortress to fight off pirates, and harbours that could be closed off with enormous chains. Imagine every tropical fruit imaginable. Imagine warm nights on the streets, where everybody comes together. Imagine salsa or vallenato music ringing through the streets, couples dancing very tight in the bar on the first floor of the house on the corner. I could go on like this forever..

I will be there again soon to take better pictures with my new camera. My fingers have been itching to do that for some time.

  1. Really nice photos. Glad you found Cartagena so interesting. It is certainly one of the most iconic places in Colombia ans a great base to explore some less known but equally beautiful places nearby. Keep up the great work, we look forward to reading your blog in the future

    • Thank you, and likewise! 🙂 I’ll be back in Colombia next week, and simply cannot wait! Will be looking at your blog for tips on what to see and do!
