A tavola

As I said, the food in Italy really deserves a special post. If delicious, simple food makes you really happy, Rome is perfect for you. There is an abundancy of great restaurants, everything from fancy and rather expensive to cheap and still superb. We were perfectly happy with the lower priced places, and actually ended up going to one place twice again because it was so good.

This was the restaurant we stumbled in on our first evening. It was on the way home from the first tour of the city, and we were exhausted.  At the door we were greeted with a complimentary glass of the owner’s homemade white wine. Slightly on the sour side, but exactly what we needed at that moment.

We tried lots of different dishes, and returned twice for more. Everything we orderd was amazing, from the fried artichokes and buffalo mozzarella starters to the homemade pastas and main courses like ossobuco or saltimbocca alla romana.

Some ham? Wait, I’ll carve it on my ham carver.

And gelato for desert, of course!!! I’ve never seen people celebrate icecream like this. It’s like an art form. There are hundreds of flavors. I think I tried them all.

Don’t think this needs explanation. Oh yes: Boscaiola. Sausage and mushrooms.

Panna cotta. Or maybe Tiramisu in a jar?

Or a little Mortadella sandwich…
